The Rules of Gentility by Janet Mullany
Book Description
Regency heiress Philomena Wellesley-Clegg has rather strong opinions about men and clothing. As to the former, so far two lords, a viscount, and a mad poet have fallen far short of her expectations. But she is about to meet Inigo Linsley, an unshaven, wickedly handsome man with a scandalous secret. He's nothing she ever dreamed she'd want—why then can she not stop thinking about how he looks in his breeches?
A delightful marriage of Pride and Prejudice with Bridget Jones's Diary, Janet Mullany's The Rules of Gentility transports us to the days before designer shoes, apple martinis, and speed dating—when great bonnets, punch at Almack's, and the marriage mart were in fashion—and captivates us with a winsome heroine who learns that some rules in society are made to be broken.
Reader Reviews from FirstLook
This is a grand, smile-inducing romp through the best parts of Regency England with a goofy, laughing heroine and hero who occasionally skirt the edges of polite society. I read this in one night because I was enjoying my time with Philomena and Inigo so very much.

"You may put your hands in my pockets as much as you like, and you can buy bonnets to your heart's content." Indeed what woman could refuse this man's proposal? Heck, I want this badboy! This sugar-sweet story contains just the right amount of scandal and seduction, love and heartache, twists and turns... and of course, a great ending. I will pick up this book whenever I'm in need of some girlie-giggle moments.

This charming blend of Jane Austen and Bridget Jones makes the Regency seem more alive than ever before.

A triumph for Janet Mullany! She has created a delightful read with wit pouring off the pages. Being a historical told in first person, it was a pleasant surprise to read such a magnificent flow to the story. The characters are charismatic and amusing. The Rules of Gentility is sure to enchant both regency and chick-lit fans.
