The Reckoning by Kelley Armstrong
Paperback, 391 pages

Only two weeks ago, life was all too predictable. But that was before I saw my first ghost. Now, along with my supernatural friends Tori, Derek, and Simon, I’m on the run from the Edison Group, which genetically altered us as part of their sinister experiment. We’re hiding in a safe house that might not be as safe as it seems. We’ll be gone soon anyway, back to rescue those we’d left behind and to take out the Edison Group . . . or so we hope.
Review
The Reckoning is the final book in the Darkest Powers trilogy. Chloe, Derek, Simon and Tori have made it to safety from the Edison group.. or so they think. After being on the run and having to rely on themselves in life threatening scenarios, our Scooby gang is back under the ruling of adults. Adjusting back to the way of a childhood seems to be easier said than done. Chloe and her group of souped up supernatural buddies are still finding their way as their extraordinary powers keep on developing and surpassing all the adult supernaturals around them. With so much power at their hands, this seems to scare even the best of people. Not before long does safety fly out the window and let in a whole new hot mess of problems. Chloe, Derek, Simon and Tori find themselves in all kinds of mishaps that seem be too much to blame on just pure bad luck. Thisleads them to think there’s an Edison Group spy amongst them just waiting to help bring them back to their crazy scientist lab to poke and prod at them, and maybe even worse, to kill them.
All the supernatural drama doesn’t stop the amounting attraction between the Chloe, Derek and Simon love triangle. The chemistry between Derek and Chloe is the obvious to everyone but them kind. On the other hand she has a more subtle and less complicated attraction to Simon. Personally, I just don’t feel it between them. I’m all for our lil necromancer to reckon her true feelings that she been denying for far too long for wolf boy. As for this being the trilogy’s conclusion, I felt it was wrapped up alright. It was mostly satisfying and made sense, but I can’t help wanting another book dealing with these lovable characters. In a perfect reading world, I’d like to see Chloe, Derek, Simon and Tori in an adult series, seeing where their next adventures take them with many generous helpings of their love lives.
This has been a really good series, overall. Don’t let the first book and its slower pace make you hesitate on reading the follow up’s. The books get better and better with each instalment.

About Kelley Armstrong
Kelley Armstrong has been telling stories since before she could write. Her earliest written efforts were disastrous. If asked for a story about girls and dolls, hers would invariably feature undead girls and evil dolls, much to her teachers' dismay. All efforts to make her produce "normal" stories failed.
Today, she continues to spin tales of ghosts and demons and werewolves, while safely locked away in her basement writing dungeon. She's the author of the NYT-bestselling "Women of the Otherworld" paranormal suspense series and "Darkest Powers" young adult urban fantasy trilogy, as well as the Nadia Stafford crime series. Armstrong lives in southwestern Ontario with her husband, kids and far too many pets.
